It can also be fitted with leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, and memory settings for the driver's seat, but that means ditching the GTI's traditional cloth seats and their plaid design. Compared with the entry-level trim, the SE adds a 480-watt Karman/Hardon audio system, a cool illuminated grille, enhanced infotainment features, and a sunroof. We prefer to shift for ourselves, so we'd avoid the surcharge.

For an extra $800, the standard six-speed manual can be swapped for a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. When deciding which GTI trim to buy, the mid-level SE strikes us as the best value. The Golf GTI is expected to go on sale at the end of this year.
The GTI's turbo four-cylinder now makes 241 horsepower (up 13) and 273 pound-feet of torque (up 15), and it still offers a manual transmission as standard. For example, dual digital displays are now standard, and the dashboard has been totally redesigned. The more dramatic makeover is inside, where VW combines hallmarks such as plaid upholstery with cutting-edge features. Its fresh exterior styling is promoted by sleeker LED headlights and a gaping lower grille with fog lights integrated into the mesh. While its styling is evolutionary rather than revolutionary, VW has packed the hatchback with more technology and enhanced performance. The 2022 Golf GTI is all new and marks the storied nameplate's eighth generation. With more modern styling inside and out as well as the familiar fantastic-to-drive behavior, the reborn Golf GTI attracts new enthusiasts, continues to reward the faithful, and again makes our 10Best list. The result is a more powerful GTI with even more desirable features and the same characteristics that helped the outgoing version earn our love and affection. Although it appears the German automaker will still stop selling regular (read: boring) Golfs in the United States, the GTI and the even zestier R model, which we review separately, have been spared. Am planning to get an R32 VW 2008 for this year 2020 and will retire my 20th Anniversary to one of my closest friends who wanted it.Its so hard to let it go coz its been a part of my life for 17 yrs and still is fun to drive.Fears that Volkswagen would annihilate the entire Golf lineup are all but forsaken, with the 2022 Golf GTI set to begin an all-new generation of the sporty hatchback. Very cheap fix for $5 DIY own replacement. The only complain i have is the electronic part of the car which is the tail lights / brake lights which i had blown maybe less than 10 times over 17 yrs.
Even my remote car key battery still intact and working never replaced and its already 2020. The original paint from 2003 still looks great and shiny with no signs defects overtime. Sometimes its a little sticky but GTI's have these on most of em. Still have my original clutch that shifts with no slides for 17 yrs. This car is awesome to drive as my daily and very reliable as you can see after 17 yrs of driving i still have this car up and running with just regular maintenance and some parts that was expected to brake and replaced. Bought my Emola Yellow GTI 20th anniversary brand new on 2003 with 7 miles right out of the dealership's door. I live in Maryland which we have 4 seasons to deal with every year. Considering the age of the car, within the next few years, the only ones still on the road will be those cared for in the way described above.
If any "performance" parts were added, run away quickly. If prior owners have not cared for the car the way I described (this is the case with most owners trying to sell this car), you do not want to inherit problems they created. If you're considering buying a 2004 Volkswagen, now that it's well over 15 years old, I suggest you pass.

Above all, don't let others driver your car. Refresh the suspension with factory components or components better than factory, but perform like factory - not performance parts. Replace belts, hoses, spark plugs, plastic cooling system components. Routinely change all of your filters: oil, air, cabin air, fuel, etc. Always do oil changes on time and use the factory recommended 5W 40 synthetic oil. Always put the recommended high octane gasoline in the tank. Do not add "performance" parts - most are junk! Don't be cheap. The key to keeping this car on the road is simple - always do all recommended maintenance when it's recommended and always use OEM or better than factory parts that perform like OEM.
